Reports: Executive Director’s Reports

August 29, 2008

  1. DCR - The recharge system to be installed as part of the interim repair project at the Storrow Drive Tunnel is expected to be connected to the recharge galleries on Back Street early this fall.
  2. MBTA - The T has shortlisted the bidders for the design work on the long term solution to groundwater problems in the South End in the vicinity of Back Bay Station and remains on schedule to award the design contract after their September Board meeting.
  3. BWSC - BWSC has reinspected the repairs at the manhole at Beacon and Dartmouth Streets, and they appear to be holding. However, groundwater readings taken this month did not show improvement. BWSC will go back to look for any other potential causes.
  4. MTA - The Turnpike Authority has repaired one of the leaking manholes in the North End and is working on the other. We have data loggers in several nearby observation wells and will be watching levels closely.
  5. Funding - Our FY09 contract with the Environment Department has been approved by the City. I have invoiced for the funds and expect to receive them shortly.
  6. GCOD - We continue to have excellent compliance with the GCOD requirements. At almost every session of the Board of Appeals, several new recharge systems are mandated. There have now been 97 recharge systems approved by BWSC. The most systems are in the South End, with the largest overall amount of recharge, taking into account the size of the systems, located in the Fenway.
  7. Website - Traffic at the website dropped this month, although it has increased in the last week.
  8. Recharge - Nancy Grilk remains in discussion with the Boston Public Schools about a recharge project in a school parking lot. BPS is interested, and we are hopeful of progress soon.
  9. Meetings - I attended a scoping session on the revised project for the Jacob Wirth’s site at 45 Stuart St. I also had meetings on projects in Bay Village and the Fenway.
  10. Comment Letters - I filed comments on the revisions to the Central Artery drainage system, the Copley Place expansion project, and the revised project on the Jacob Wirth’s site. All are posted on the website or will be shortly.
