Childrens Museum
| January 11, 2006
In my comments on the Childrens Museums planned expansion and renovation project, I had suggested that they look into the possibility of recharging from their existing roof to Sleeper Street and also look into potential educational programs that would show the importance of groundwater to the buildings of Boston. The Secretary of EOEA, in her findings letter, suggested that the Museum work with us. I testified at the public hearing on their application for a Chapter 91 Waterways license last week and raised both issues again. Ill be meeting with the COO of the Museum on Friday to discuss how best to incorporate these ideas. I think that we might be able to get an exhibit.

I met with the Chief Operating Officer of the museum to discuss groundwater issues. They have committed to build a recharge system as part of the open space area they will be operating adjacent to the museum on Sleeper Street. They also committed to working with us to fund and design an outdoor exhibit on both a child and an adult level about the importance of the groundwater issue in Boston and the Fort Point Channel area.

I still expect to meet with the museum COO in the near future for further discussions about the potential for a groundwater related exhibit and potential funding.

I met with the Museum COO and the chief exhibit designer to discuss a potential groundwater related exhibit. There are possibilities to address the issue both inside the museum (they have an exhibit on how the city grew that could be a fit) and on the wharf. I expect to have more discussions in the fall.
