Elevation Corrections

August 26, 2009 Thanks to independent surveying of one of our rim elevations in the North End by an engineering firm, we discovered that an error had been made in our original survey of the wells in that neighborhood. As a result, all of the reported groundwater elevations in the North End/Bulfinch Triangle area were almost two feet too high. All current and historical results have been corrected and a note has been added to the readings at each affected well.
September 24, 2009 We have spot checked elevations in other neighborhoods and found no additional surveying errors.
December 19, 2011 After surveying work for the MBTA led to an indication of inconsistencies, Christian resurveyed several of our wells in the South End near the Turnpike along Shawmut and Harrison Avenues. He discovered a substantial error in the original survey data from 1999. The data has been corrected, showing that these wells actually are at a much higher level that we had thought. A review of the original work done around that time revealed some arithmetic errors that have also led to adjustments upward in the level on two other wells. The correct current and historic levels are now displayed on our website, and the corrections are noted with the map data.
