New Wells

We have incorporated the wells we installed for the T into our network. We have also added four wells (with two more to come) that the T committed to install in the areas of the Arlington and Copley Station rehabilitation projects. We will be installing four additional wells in the North End next month, three near Fulton and Cross Streets and one near the Battery Wharf project, and two new wells on Beacon Street to try to understand the cause of the low point between Berkeley and Clarendon Streets.

We have installed two new wells on Beacon Street to help us define the extent of a depression between Clarendon and Berkeley Streets. We also installed a new well near the Battery Wharf project in the North End to watch for any changes in groundwater levels there. Unfortunately, we were unable to find locations where we could install new wells in the area around Fulton and Commercial Streets. However, we were able to activate a former Central Artery Project well in the alley behind Fulton Street that is helping us to better observe levels in the area.

We will be installing a new well on Exeter Street near the Lenox Hotel, paid for by the hotel, to help it better understand some groundwater issues at the facility. The well, in the public sidewalk, will be incorporated into our network. It will be installed before the construction moratorium in November.

We will shortly receiving access to wells installed by Berklee College near Massachusetts Avenue. In addition, the project planned for 93 Massachusetts Avenue should soon be installing an observation well near the Eliot Hotel. Installation of these wells was required by the BRA and transfer is required under the Citys PIC policy that gives the BGwT the option of taking over any groundwater observation well installed on property over which the Public Improvement Commission has control.
